Let's Talk Turkey

Somewhere along the way, I offered to host Thanksgiving at my house and cook a turkey for the first time.  Right up to the evening before, things were going well.  The table was set, the turkey was thawing and I was making pies.  Then the time came to put the pie in the oven and I noticed that there was no heat.  Despite all of my best attempts at button pushing, cursing and a little crying, I could not get it to light.  I'll admit panic set in.  But everyone pitched in to help make Thanksgiving dinner a success.  Dad helped troubleshoot the oven by asking helpful questions like, "Have you ever used it before?"  After I had practically crawled into the oven to take the bottom out, Josh crawled under it and somehow convinced the ignitor to ignite.  Mom and Kris helped with the sides.  And Jackson kept everyone in line.  He also said the best Thanksgiving blessing I've ever heard.

Here's Jackson checking out the turkey in the sink.  I thought there was a picture of him helping Dad carve the turkey, but it must be on someone else's camera.  He made sure that turkey was behaving at every step of the process.

My first turkey

The table set for dinner.  I had set a place for Jackson that didn't involve china, linen or a knife, but he decided he wanted to sit at the head of the table and that he really needed a knife.  I guess that's only fitting, since he really is the one in charge of this family.  During dinner he reminded everyone that, "I am the big boss.  You are the little boss."

The pie that broke the oven.
