Marginal Utility

I did a quick drive-by of the house today to see if any progress had been made since this weekend. They were in the process of grading the yard and were pouring gravel to pave the driveway. I didn't go inside since there were still workers everywhere. This gives me a good reason to go back over the weekend to check up on things and stop by to steal more kisses from Jackson.

As excited as I am about moving into the house, it looks like it's going to have to wait one more night. I got invited to a dinner with the partner that oversees my team on the night I close, and it's the kind of thing I'd be stupid to decline. And I don't think I can ask the partner to reschedule to a time more convenient for me.

I'm getting ready to set up new accounts for utilities, and I'm tying up loose ends with the old ones. Why is it that a utility company can charge you a penalty for paying a bill late, but they can take eight to twelve weeks to return a credit on your account and don't have to pay interest?
