Ooze Cruise
Another visit to the doctor this morning and I escaped without the drain being put back in! She popped open the incision again and inserted another wick to keep it open and let it drain some more, so I'll remove that again tomorrow. I managed to drain so much after leaving the doctor that it seeped through the gauze, the outer bandage, the tape, my camisole and my shirt. Nice. There's still redness from the infection, but I have another week of this cycle of antibiotics. If at the end of that week, there's any redness left, I start another cycle.
She did share with me that any infection in my body could migrate and settle in the reconstruction, resulting in a whole heap of trouble. So, if I have to have dental work done, I have to go on antibiotics for prophylaxis. Any bacterial infection? Get it treated asap. I'm not real good about going to the doctor until I absolutely can't stand the pain any more, so that's something to work on, since the horror story she shared was about a woman whose abscessed tooth infection traveled to her implant.
Since I have a history of cancer, anytime they remove tissue from my body now it goes to pathology. There was some skin and other tissue removed during this past surgery, and it all came back clean! That's always good news.
I'll go back in two weeks for another check on how things are healing, unless the redness or drainage becomes an issue before then.
