Appointment with Surgeon Set

Margo, the amazing nurse from my doctor's office who has gotten me through the process so far, called this morning to tell me that she had gotten an appointment for me with a surgeon for tomorrow, Tuesday, at 2 pm. Hopefully we will learn more about what is to come then. I have a list of questions ready to go! Mom and Dad will go with me so that when the information becomes too much for me to take in, I'll have another set of ears to absorb it all.

Thanks to everyone so far for all of your words of support and offers of help. Please know that it's not personal if I don't return your phone calls; I'm just trying to get my bearings and I'm not quite ready to talk about this yet.

Melissa, I suspect God has given you your brilliant mind, your eloquent facility with words, and your (clearly inherited) willful and spirited inclination to fight on principle for two purposes:
1. To equip you to beat this disease with no mercy; and
2. To subsequently use these gifts to inspire other women to beat it, too (women who otherwise have no one like you to emulate).
Thank you for providing this source of information for all of us who care about you. You will be in the daily prayers of my family. I already know that God is going to comfort you through this fight, enable you to succeed, and require of you later to share your scrappy, fighting spirit with others who need your example!
Love,
Suzan

Melissa, I hope you don't mind that Matthew forwarded your message to me. He knows my passion about this battle since I have been fighting it for 9 years. There is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel although things may seem very dark right now. I know you are confused and very angry -- stay angry!!! I'm very firmly convinced that 90% of the battle is your attitude. Try your level best to keep doing what you have always done, day in and day out. No matter how tempted you may be, do not give up. There will be times you will want to talk to no one about anything and just escape from it all -- do it. Then there will be times you will want to talk. If so, please feel free to call me at any time of the day or night -- my cell number is 540-335-3743. Maybe I can answer some of your questions and maybe I can't, but I can be a very good listener. I was 9 years from my first diagnosis in February and I consider every day a gift. I would love to help you reach that goal. You have a very strong support group in your family and the rest of us who will keep you in our thoughts throughout this battle. Keep fighting!!!

Dee Shaffer
