It's A New Day

Today marks a pretty big milestone in my cancer journey. I am officially a two year survivor! In many ways it seems as if much more time has passed than just two years, but it also seems like it's only been a couple of weeks. I've known this day was coming up, but unlike last year, I haven't obsessed about it all month, reliving all of the days that lead up to this one. I'm happy to be able to put another year under my belt.

I have all sorts of profound thoughts about cancer. I think it's made me wiser. It's made me less patient. It's made me happier. What, you say? Cancer made you happy? No. It made me downright miserable. But it taught me that I could either spend the rest of my life, however long that might be, just going along to get along, or I could take matters into my own hands and do what I needed to do to enjoy my life while I still have it. I think that's what I've done over the past year, and I am honestly happier than I can ever remember being as an adult.

I know this song is political, but it resonates with me right now. This is a new day.

You are right, that is quite a milestone. I loved reading parts of your blog. My wife is a BC survivor and it is interesting to read other women's stories. It kind of validates our experience.

I am also doing a PhD study about the experience women have after the initial BC treatments end. You can find out more on my website.

I would like to quote some things from your blog, but I want to get your permission first. Even though your site is public, it is different than a book or article. These are your words and you should have a say about where they reappear, even if it is a "fair use" quote.

If you wanted we could even do an interview and you could post anything you wanted to from those transcripts on your blog. My contact information is on the study's web site.

Good luck with everything,
Charlie
