One Word: Plastics
It's been a busy week. On Tuesday, I met with a plastic surgeon to talk about reconstruction. She spent almost an hour talking with us about options, procedures, implants and just about anything else you can think of related to fake boobs. Or "foobs" as I'll probably refer to them from here out. I really liked her and she followed through on all of the promises she made during the appointment. She even had one of her former patients reach out to me to talk with me about the procedure and the practice. 98% of the work she does is breast, either reconstruction or elective reductions and augmentations. The other 2% is typical plastics stuff like botox and lipo, but that 2% is made up of people that she's done breast work for. So it's safe to say this is her specialty. She gave me a bunch of paper work to read that is designed to scare the crap out of you, explaining all of the possible complications. There is a possibility of scar tissue forming and constricting the implant, and the likelihood is increased because of radiation, but this is the only thing she seemed concerned about. I'll be given instructions on how to massage the foobs after surgery to reduce the formation of scar tissue.
This morning I had my last mammogram! It made me so mad to listen to two older women in the waiting area complaining about how much they hate mammograms. Ladies, it might not be fun, but it can save your life! Fortunately I didn't have to hang out with them too long since the technician came back to give me the all clear and release me from custody.
I've called both surgeons and told them to schedule surgery. I gave them pretty much the whole month of March to work with, so hopefully it'll be on the calendar soon. I'll keep you posted.
