Hoos For A Cure
My younger sister, 28, just got her referral for the second mammogram. And it's my fault. None of that first mammogram at 40 stuff in this family. Did you know that the standard is that first degree family members of breast cancer survivors should start getting screened when they are ten years younger than the survivor was when diagnosed. So if I have a daughter, she'll have to start getting mammograms when she's 19. What were you doing when you were 19?
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a cure for cancer before my daughter turns 19? Nancy Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Komen Race for the Cure® and the Breast Cancer 3-Days, the organization has invested more than $1.3 billion to fulfill its promise, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
I'm promising my sister that I'll do everything in my power to prevent her from having to walk the road I've been down, and that is why we'll be walking again this year in the Global Race for the Cure. Over the past two years, Hoos For A Cure has raised more than $7,500 for Komen for the Cure and this year our goal is an ambitious $5,000. Please help us meet this ambitious goal by making a donation in support of our team by visiting www.info-komen.org/goto/melnorth or by clicking on the pink donate button on the right.
