Lessons Learned

I've learned a lot in the past year. I've learned that I'm not too young to get cancer. I've learned that another birthday is a blessing, not a curse. I've learned to not sweat the small stuff, and once you've beaten cancer, it's all small stuff. I've learned that I'm one hot bald chick. I've learned that even though I got cancer, I also got lucky. I'm still here.

This year 182,460 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer; 40,480 will die of the disease. Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.

I've also learned how important it is to give back. On June 7, I will be participating in the National Race for the Cure to raise awareness and funds in support of this organization's critical mission. $3 million of the funds raised through the 2007 Race remained in the Washington, DC, community – including metro-area counties in Virginia and Maryland – to fund outreach programs and initiatives that address the specific unmet breast health needs of the area. Washington, DC, has the highest breast cancer mortality rate in the United States.

Please join me by pledging to support my participation in the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure®. It is easy to support this great cause. You can make a pledge online by simply visiting my personal pledge page. If you would prefer there is also a downloadable form to send in pledges through the mail. Any contribution amount will make a difference in the lives of many.
