It's Comcastic!
I wrote a few months ago about what fun I had talking to Dell's tech support. I'm afraid I'm heading down that road again and this time I'm going to get to check out Comcast and McAfee's customer support services.
When I moved in, I had two choices for television service; cable from Comcast or satellite from Verizon. We don't have FIOS out here in the boonies. The only way to get Internet service is by subscribing to Comcast for cable. So that's what I did. It took the poor guy over three hours to hook it up to my house and two other installers had to come by and help him. I hope he was new on the job. I soon noticed that my DVR did not give the option to record only new, first run episodes. I've been through a few DVRs in the past couple of years, and they all do this. The box I have is identical to the one I had in Fairfax, so I know it's capable. I spent about 45 minutes chatting online with tech support a few weeks ago and the only advice he had was unplug it, then plug it back in. When that didn't work, he told me to take the box back to Comcast and get a new one. Comcast apparently doesn't want anyone to know where they are, because I couldn't find the address anywhere. When I went to take the lock off of my storage shed, I happened to notice Comcast hiding out in the same industrial park, so I hauled my box over there and got a new one. Same thing. Maybe the people in the Winchester area aren't allowed to only record new shows. I'll try again tonight to get an answer, but it's a little obnoxious to have to delete 9 episodes for every 1 you want to watch.
Saturday morning I noticed that the virus protection on my computer had stopped working. Since I have my work computer, and we were leaving for the wedding, I just shut the computer down and left it until last night. I again chatted online with McAfee's customer support, mainly because they charge 3.95 a minute to talk to you on the phone. After describing in detail the problem I was having and the things I had tried to resolve it, the only advice he could give was to uninstall the software. Happy to. Now that it's been uninstalled, it won't reinstall and Windows is so freaked out that it's not protected, I can't get on the Internet. Good times.
I have so much I want to get done around the house, but I get sucked into trying to fix these little technology issues. They really shouldn't be that difficult. I'll just tell my neighbors "Sorry I haven't cut the grass, but my computer doesn't work. " I'm sure they'll understand.

I noticed your blog and wanted to reach out to explain the issue with your DVR. The reason you can't currently record only NEW programs is an issue with the Guide. We are currently working to fix this problem and the update is scheduled for roll out later this year.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can assist you with. Feel free to email me at We_Can_Help@cable.comcast.com.

I am outside of Chicago. Can you guarantee that the Cubs are going to the Series this year? It would mean a lot to me and I promise to watch Comcast Sports Net for another 100 years if you give me just one Cubs series this year.
Sincerely,
