Drain-Oh!

I've been feeling a little better and a little stronger each day this week. The drains on each side were the only thing that were still causing me pain and annoyance. I've been able to switch over to Aleve, only taking the Rx pain killers at night. I hate sleeping on my back, and that is exactly what I've been forced to do since the surgery.

I saw the plastic surgeon this afternoon for my follow-up visit and after a little hemming and hawing, she removed the drains. That didn't hurt nearly as much as I expected, though it did make a nice sucking sound as she pulled them out. She also removed the last bandages covering the incisions and seemed pleased with the way everything looks. I'm glad she's confident about it, because I don't see anything promising or reassuring when I look. Now that the drains are gone, a whole world of possibility is opened for me. I can take a shower tomorrow. (And I know others will be happy about this as well) I can try to sleep on my side tonight. And I can move my arms much more. I have some exercises I need to start doing to help get my range of motion back.

It'll be almost a month before I go back to see her again for my first expansion. This is mainly to give me a chance to fully heal, but also to give her a chance to go on vacation.

I'm still waiting to hear from the breast surgeon on the pathology. They will check everything they removed to make sure there was no cancer. No one expects to find any, but no one expected me to be diagnosed with cancer at 29, either. Hopefully I'll get that report in the next day or two. I'll keep you posted!
