An Itch That Can't Be Scratched

It's the damnedest thing. I don't have any feeling on the back of my right arm. I lost it when the nerves were cut during the lymph node removal. I felt like some of it had come back, but that it got worse again during radiation. Since I have no feeling, how is it that I can still feel the itching sensation of a mosquito bite? I can feel it itching, but I can't feel myself scratching it.

I'm a little bit frustrated with my body. At this point, I just want to be "well" again. I'm through with being tired. I'm mad that I let my muscles go soft. It seems like since I'm not getting zapped daily, I should be ready to go, right? The doctor told me on my last day of radiation that it could be four to six weeks before I start feeling better. Four to six weeks!

The good news is that I think my skin has finally stopped cooking from radiation. All of the skin that had been pink and raw is now brown and dried out. It still itches like crazy, but at least I can feel it when I scratch that!

Patience is a virtue we Northerns have never had much of... That being said, I understand your frustrations. Hang in there. I love you.

Same thing with my knee since my ACL surgery. I recommend you avoid poison ivy - I got some on my knee and I can feel it itch (a lot!) but I can't feel when I scratch it. Not fair.
