One Track Mind
If you know me well, you know that I am only capable of focusing my energies on one area of my life at a time. First, I worked a lot, at a job that nearly drove me crazy. Then, I focused on getting my master's degree. With that behind me, I turned my attention to the weight that I had gained while focusing on these things and did Weight Watchers online. I lost just over 40 pounds in 2006. When this year dawned, new and fresh, I was determined to drop the rest of the weight to get to my goal. But the universe had other plans, so I've spent the majority of 2007 focused on staying alive.
Fortunately, I was able to dodge gaining the average 20 pounds many young women gain during chemo, but I did add a couple of pounds during radiation when I was napping instead of exercising. So Monday I weighed myself, logged onto Weight Watchers and started counting my points again. I even went to the gym Monday night for an abbreviated workout.
And now I'm going to try something I've never done before; focus on two things at once, slimming down and fighting cancer. There's a lot of information linking exercise and healthy diet to a decreased risk of breast cancer, so as another woman whose blog I read said, this is my treatment after treatment.

Here's a good overview of sorts:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/breast-cancer-prevention/WO00091
Here is the direct link to an article from June's Journal of Clincal Oncology- "Greater Survival After Breast Cancer in Physically Active Women with High Vegetable-Fruit Intake Regardless of Obesity"

Also, if you go to www.pubmed.gov and type in the keywords "breast cancer, diet, exercise" you'll get the abstracts to hundreds of medical journal articles on the subject. Some you have to subscribe to read.
You're inspiring me. :-)
