Nothing To It
One down, 32 to go! I've survived my first radiation treatment and it was pretty painless. The process took much longer than I anticipated because they were over 30 minutes late taking me for my appointment, but once I was called back it went pretty quickly. I undressed from the waist up and put on a gown. Then I go lay on the table with my right arm over my head. The technicians make sure I'm lined up properly, then they leave the room, closing a 12-inch thick steel door behind them. The machine buzzes a little bit but there is no visible beam of light or anything that you can see to let you know you are getting radiation. The buzzing stops, the machine moves to the next position and starts buzzing again. Then it's over. I also had an x-ray taken from each angle yesterday and will have an x-ray taken every five treatments. I'm not sure exactly what purpose this serves since I don't think my ribs or lungs are going anywhere, but I'll ask the doctor when I see her. I believe that I will see her this afternoon after my treatment. I will see her once a week to make sure everything is going OK and that my skin is holding up. So far, there is no visible change in my skin, though it will start to pinken like a sunburn.
I had planned to get back to my kickboxing class last night but I fell asleep on the couch instead. I have a cold again much like the one I had before my last chemo and so I feel like crap, but hopefully this will soon pass as my body continues to bounce back from my last chemo treatment. I think I'm starting to get some of my hair back, unfortunately it's the hair on my legs and not on my head. But this can only be good news and hopefully the hair on my head will start coming in soon!
