When you're diagnosed with breast cancer before you turn 30, it's hard to find a lot of information. The average breast cancer patient is 64 years old, so there's a lot more research on the impact of the disease in older women. So it's reassuring to read an article in the paper about using digital mammography as a better screening tool for younger women. It's a wee bit frustrating, though, when the younger women they're talking about are 50. Anyway, digital mammography is better than film mammography at detecting abnormalities in younger women because they tend to have much denser breast tissue.

I had a digital mammogram after my biopsy last February. Other than the pain involved with a mammogram on a fresh incision, it was pretty cool to be able to instantly see on the screen what everything looked like. I'm really nosy, so it makes dealing with me a lot easier if you can show me exactly what's going on.

Digital mammography is still not as prevalent as traditional film mammography, but if you're premenopausal, it's worth requesting at your next mammogram.
