I Spy
The thing I learned about myself yesterday is that I wouldn't make a good spy because I came out of anesthesia talking a mile a minute. No secrets here! The worst part of the day was no food or drink. And the waiting right before surgery. My surgeon likes to arrive at the hospital mere moments before she's scheduled to operate and when you're as hungry as I was and only wearing a hospital gown, this only makes you crankier. Other than that, everything went great and I'm just glad to have that stupid thing gone.
I was waking up less than 45 minutes after they wheeled me back, so it wasn't a big deal at all. And I wasn't under general this time, just IV sedation, so it was much easier to wake up from. I must have been still drunk when I was getting dressed to leave the hospital because when I got ready for bed last night I found 3 of the little round contacts on my chest that they snap the heart monitor to during surgery. Didn't notice those before!
I made my surgeon give me a breast exam on the operating table because I wanted her to check a lump I had felt. I know it gave everyone in the OR a kick that that was among the first things I said when I woke up. She says it's the edge of the crater they made during my lumpectomy that hasn't filled back in with tissue yet and it feels harder because of radiation. I'll have a new mammogram on that side next month, so I'll feel much better after that.
They did give me my port and I'm trying to decide how best to destroy it. They sterilized it before they gave it to me, so it melted the tubing a little, but this is what the stupid thing looks like, next to a quarter for size.

I'm a little sore this morning, but nothing at all like my first surgery, so that's good. I'm not allowed to drive for 24 hours, so no work for me today! I can take the bandages off later today and see what the damage looks like, but I'm not worried.
